In February 2022 U.K. singer-songwriter Louis Dunford released his single "The Angel (North London Forever)," described on Wikipedia as "a love letter to his hometown of Islington, North London." A lifelong fan, he dedicated it to the famed Premier Football (soccer) League team Arsenal, which is based in Islington. It quickly gained popularity among fellow Arsenal fans, and has been adopted by the team as its "anthem," played before every home game.
Chris Lowe is well known as another lifelong Arsenal fan. Notably, back in 1993 he co-wrote and produced "Do the Right Thing" for Arsenal star Ian Wright. PSB friend and "minder" Dainton Connell, with whom Chris also recorded ("Here Comes the Bear"), was also a prominent fan of the team. So perhaps it was something of an "unsurprising surprise" when on May 20, 2026 the Pet Shop Boys debuted on Instagram their "PSB remix" of "The Angel." Compared to Dunford's original, which is initially dominated by gentle acoustic guitar before gaining more elaborate orchestration later on though remaining essentially acoustic in nature, the PSB remix strips out the guitar but adds a pronounced percussive beat.
The "PSB remix" as it appears on Instagram is very brief, much shorter than the 3:58 original. Whether a longer version will soon be made available remains to be seen at this time.
