Celebrities citing PSB tracks among their Tracks of My Years choices
The premise of the BBC radio show Tracks of My Years is for a guest celebrity to chose a set of songs—often ten of them, but sometimes more or fewer—that have great personal meaning to them, that played a significant role in their life or strongly influenced them, or that they personally feel describes or characterizes them. Here are all the instances of celebrities choosing Pet Shop Boys songs, at least that I'm aware of. If anyone knows of additional cases and can verify them, please let me know.
- Siobhan Fahey (singer, member of Shakespears Sister and formerly Bananarama, July 26, 2019) - "Se A Vida É (That's the Way Life Is)"
- Sting (singer/musician/songwriter, November 21, 2021) - "West End Girls"
- Jacqueline Wilson (author, December 18, 2022) - "What Have I Done to Deserve This?"
- Cathy Dennis (songwriter/producer, September 3, 2023) - "West End Girls"
- Johnny Marr (musician/songwriter, November 26, 2023) - "Love Comes Quickly"
- Al Murray (comedian, May 4, 2025) - "It's a Sin"
- Brandon Flowers (singer/songwriter, lead singer of The Killers, August 16, 2026) - "Domino Dancing"
Incidentally, the Pet Shop Boys themselves (both Neil and Chris) appeared as guests on the June 9, 2024 episode. Unlike a great many other guests, they didn't choose any of their own songs. Instead their choices were:
- The Beatles - "I Am the Walrus"
- The Supremes - "Stop! in the Name Of Love"
- Irene Cara - "Fame"
- The Temptations - "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone"
- Eddie & the Hot Rods - "Do Anything You Wanna Do"
- Sharon Redd - "Never Give You Up"
- Kariya - "Let Me Love You for Tonight"
- David Bowie & Pat Metheny Group - "This Is Not America"
- Massive Attack - "Unfinished Sympathy"
- Roy Orbison - "A Love So Beautiful"
I should also note that I was personally a bit surprised and disappointed by several Tracks of My Tears guests who also did not choose any PSB songs, among them Jake Shears, Boy George, and Trevor Horn.
